The Tantus Ryder was my very first anal toy (well, except for the occasional finger), and for me, it was the perfect start to getting over my fear of anal play. I’d had a bad experience with a thoughtless boyfriend and a distinct lack of lubrication or prep, and I didn’t want anyone or anything in my ass ever again. I eventually reached a point where I became comfortable in exploring anal sex again, and this cute little plug seemed like the perfect step up from just using my fingers.
The Ryder butt plug is a medium or intermediate size. I usually need to stretch with a finger or two before trying to insert it, unless I’ve been playing with a smaller toy beforehand. The Ryder measures 4.25 inches long, with 3.75 of that length being insertable. The diameter is 1.5 inches, which, for me, is about two fingers wide and really manageable. The base measures 1 inch by 2.5 inches and is only .25 inches thick, with rounded edges.
The shape of the Ryder is a very blunt looking torpedo. The tip is slightly thinner than the body, but not by much, and round. I recommend warming up with a few fingers and an orgasm or two before trying to insert this if you are nervous or new to intermediate anal toys! The tip quickly widens into the main width of the toy, then stays the same width until tapering into a ‘stem’ and then the base. I really adore the way Tantus has shaped the base of the Ryder. It’s narrow, but not so narrow that you have to worry about it folding in on itself and getting eaten by your ass, and it fits comfortable between your cheeks for longer term wear. I have comfortable kept my Ryder plug in for 3 or 4 hours without being annoyed by the base chafing. (Really, anal plug manufacturers, which one of you decided to come up with round bases for plugs? They *hurt* and don’t work well with most human bodies. *headdesk*) The base also doesn’t bother me when I am sitting down.
The silicone Tantus used for this plug is gorgeous! My Ryder is purple, shiny, and I can see beautiful swirls of colour in it. (If purple isn’t your colour, don’t worry. The Ryder also comes in black, neon orange, neon pink or neon green!) There is plenty of ‘squish’ to the silicone, but it’s still firm enough to make inserting it easy. For some reason, the silicone manages to attract *every* piece of lint and dust in the room, so it will need to be washed before use, unless you store it in a bag of some sort. Luckily, cleaning the Ryder is simple. Because it’s made of silicone, you can boil it or wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution to complete sterilize it, or for every day cleaning, antibacterial soap and water works!
The Ryder doesn’t have any texture or a fancy design. It was made to stay inside you, and it reminds you that it’s there constantly, but not in a bad way. The base does have ‘Tantus’ imprinted on the side of the base, which will require a bit of extra cleaning, as lube or cum does get stuck in it. A toothbrush works really well to get the little crevices without hurting the silicone by accident.
In use, this toy is perfect for those days I want to be filled up without feeling uncomfortably stretched or to have a plug in for an extended period of time. (My Sir really enjoys ordering me to wear this plug when we are having a date night. I’m hyper aware of it all evening, and it helps get me ready for the anal sex that will inevitably be happening later that night!) It’s great for double penetration with another toy or a partner, though I have had it pop out once or twice during a particularly intense orgasm.
I’ve owned my Ryder for 4 years now, and it is still in perfect condition. While I have definitely graduated to being able to use and enjoy larger butt plugs, it is still my go-to toy for when I want to feel full without wanting to have to mess around with lots of prep and stretching beforehand. I give it 5 intermediate paws up out of 5!
